Henri's First

Dear Luna,

"Mummy, please, let's not eat animals and other creatures!"

We were on our way to Henri's first birthday earlier when you blurted this out. Bubba and I got no idea where this came from. We laughed in disbelief. A vegetarian by choice at the age of four.

So adorable.

True to your word, you didn't eat any meat at the party. You even gave me a weird look when I offered grilled chicken skewer. I was totally impressed. Until I saw you pig out on fairy bread when the desserts were served.

Was that declaration of yours back in the car just a game? You are such a mastermind, kiddo.

henri1
How you make me smile when you do your own pose...

henri6
And when you keep still for a few seconds.

Anyhoo... You met Henri last year when he was just a few months old. He's the son of bubba's old bandmate/friend. We did a brief stop at their place (and had a much needed shower) towards the end of our 8-day Cairns-Sydney roadtrip.

You didn't get to play with him much at the party because he's still so small. So were the two other toddlers. You still had fun playing with their toys though. And you took a purple balloon home — now that gave you a huge smile on your face.

You were the big sister of three toddler boys this afternoon.

So You Think You Can Dance, Luna?

Dear Luna,

Currently checked in Candlewood Suites, Santa Clara. We 're in the U.S. cause Bubba's gotta do a robot demo at some convention in San Francisco next week. All of us are still dealing with jetlag, and our body clocks are still trying to adjust to California's time zone.

So we stay in most of the day, stepping out only for groceries and take out meals.

luna

Even with the 24-hour cartoon shows on cable telly and the few toys we recently purchased, you still get so bored. So sometimes you and mummy do a little dancing together in our room to entertain ourselves. And there are times you just want the limelight for yourself, and you do something insane like this...

Dance moves, definitely not from mum.

Can't. Stop. Laughing!

Love,
Mum, your dance partner.

Bolinao In A Jiffy With Yak Pak Philippines

Dear Luna,

Less than 24 hours, and we're already packing for our journey back home. Around past three in the afternoon yesterday, we arrived here at Holy Land Beach Resort in Bolinao, Pangasinan. Not the best on this strip, but it has a pool, and it's relatively cheap. Like, P2,300 cheap for an air-conditioned room good for 5-6.

With us are bubba, your grannies, mum's Aunt Miles, and mum's Uncle Ninoy and his whole family. This is our only beach trip with mum's extended family this Philippine summer. We all thought it shall do your Granpa Billy (who's still recovering from a stroke) good. Change of scenery, salty air, fresh seafood.

Plus it's a great opportunity to catch up with relatives who we don't see often.

yak4
Your 'platypus pout' (a duck pout's too tame).

Bolinao's Patar White Beach is actually the first Philippine beach your bubba stepped onto. About five years ago, during bubba's first visit in the country, he and I joined your Aunt Gabe's team building with her ex colleagues. It was also my first time in Patar.

We loved it because back then, the place has not drawn massive crowds yet. The sand is actually cream-colored, not white, but it's still a pretty shore. Oh, and the sunset view from here... Stunning!

All photos here were not taken at Patar White Beach though. In fact, we didn't visit that part. This beach is the one in front of Holy Land Beach Resort. Not so well-kept, but it didn't matter to you. You were pretty content on digging sand and dumping loads of it (and seaweed) on Uncle Azhley's body earlier this morning. You also played in the pool last night (even if you already changed from swimsuit to dress) with Aunt Katkat.

Yes, you had a ball.

Ideal day pack for a baby doll. You like the play of colors on this one!

yak6
You got yourself a wound today. Aww.

We're about to leave soon and you're stuffing your Yak Pak back pack with snacks and toys. Haha. 'Til the next beach trip, baby doll.

Mona Vale, A Little Too Late

Dear Luna,

Nana invited us to come to Mona Vale Beach with her today. She went ahead (cause she wanted to do an early swim) while we prepped for the day out. It's quite cold this morn, so we planned to just let you play at the playground.

Before heading out, bubba checked his work emails. And while he did so, we spent some time taking photos of you cause you're wearing a new pair of blingin' kicks today. You lost your good mood though when you saw a spider while posing at the backyard. Haha.

Anyhoo, we lost track of time that we left the house later than intended. Nana was already on her way home when we arrived at Mona Vale. Of course we still let you play. We even brought you to another playground near nana's suburb on the way home.

luna18
"Mummy, there's a spider!"

When you were still happy, before we went out.

luna22
"We're going to the playground!!!"

luna23
Oh you know, just a flipping-my-hair shot.

luna19
Your cute kicks.

Tamarama Play

Dear Luna,

We were supposed to meet up with mumma's friend, Gringo, at Bondi Beach earlier today. Bubba and I couchsurfed at his place about fours years ago in Bacolod when mumma was two months pregnant with you. We were on a two-week backpacking trip in Visayas then and Bacolod was our last stop.

Unfortunately, Gringo wasn't able to make it.

Since we were already in Bondi area, we let you play at the playground instead on Tamarama Beach. And it's good that we changed your shorts before we left the house, because the yellow shorts with black dots (which you like more) is still quite big for you. Would have fallen while you're running around!

From the playground, we went to the mall and bought you a Little People Neighborhood Playground Playset yes, you love playgrounds that much! I'll show you a photo of your new toy some other time.
