Bolinao In A Jiffy With Yak Pak Philippines

Dear Luna,

Less than 24 hours, and we're already packing for our journey back home. Around past three in the afternoon yesterday, we arrived here at Holy Land Beach Resort in Bolinao, Pangasinan. Not the best on this strip, but it has a pool, and it's relatively cheap. Like, P2,300 cheap for an air-conditioned room good for 5-6.

With us are bubba, your grannies, mum's Aunt Miles, and mum's Uncle Ninoy and his whole family. This is our only beach trip with mum's extended family this Philippine summer. We all thought it shall do your Granpa Billy (who's still recovering from a stroke) good. Change of scenery, salty air, fresh seafood.

Plus it's a great opportunity to catch up with relatives who we don't see often.

Your 'platypus pout' (a duck pout's too tame).

Bolinao's Patar White Beach is actually the first Philippine beach your bubba stepped onto. About five years ago, during bubba's first visit in the country, he and I joined your Aunt Gabe's team building with her ex colleagues. It was also my first time in Patar.

We loved it because back then, the place has not drawn massive crowds yet. The sand is actually cream-colored, not white, but it's still a pretty shore. Oh, and the sunset view from here... Stunning!

All photos here were not taken at Patar White Beach though. In fact, we didn't visit that part. This beach is the one in front of Holy Land Beach Resort. Not so well-kept, but it didn't matter to you. You were pretty content on digging sand and dumping loads of it (and seaweed) on Uncle Azhley's body earlier this morning. You also played in the pool last night (even if you already changed from swimsuit to dress) with Aunt Katkat.

Yes, you had a ball.

You got yourself a wound today. Aww.

We're about to leave soon and you're stuffing your Yak Pak back pack with snacks and toys. Haha. 'Til the next beach trip, baby doll.

Bubba's Not-So-Big Three-O At PNKY Travel Cafe

Hi Luna,

I am having a great 30th birthday, not because of lots of gifts or lollies or a big party but because I got a great daughter & wife by my side. When you're a child and it's your birthday you look at your gifts and your party to decide if it is a good birthday or not, but when you grow older, you look at what you have in your life to see if it is a good birthday or not. I never thought I could have started a lovely family while living an adventurous life by the time I reached 30, so I am a very proud man on my 30th birthday thanks to you & Mum :-)

Love,
Bubba

Dear Luna,

Truth is, I wanted to throw bubba a big celebration since it's his 30th. But we're living far from mum's relatives (and we haven't made any friends yet in Baguio where we currently reside), plus we don't have much money to spend right now. So we just picked a nice restaurant we have not dined in before for a simple birthday lunch.

PNKY Travel Cafe is the resident resto of PNKY Bed & Breakfast. This B&B, before it was developed to what it is today, was a vacation house that can be short term-rented by tourists. Mum spent a lot of (high)school holidays here with my parents and aunts and uncles and cousins. We did barbies here, and bonfires and late night drinking sessions and truth-or-dares (wherein we once challenged my Aunt Amy to enter the premises of the Laperal White House — known to be haunted — across the street, read story HERE)

It's a very special place for me, and it means a lot to be able to bring you and bubba here. So yeah, not a bad celebration at all. As long as bubba is happy, I'm happy.

Love,
Mum

BenCab Museum, Baguio: Sleeping Beauty

Dear Luna,

Nope, it's not an artwork of Philippine National Artist Benedicto Cabrera."Sleeping Beauty" refers to you, baby doll. Because you mostly slept during our BenCab Museum visit this afternoon.

We've been living in Baguio for about two months now, yet it was just our first time to visit the museum in nearby town Tuba (Benguet). We took a jeep from Baguio City Center (you almost threw a tantrum cause we waited more than half an hour for it to be filled with passengers) to Km. 6 Asin Road where the museum sits. You slept throughout the ride, until we hopped off at our stop and entered the museum.

There were no other people around. Bubba and I took our time staring at paintings, rubber cut artworks (mum's fave), and tribal artifacts. We had late lunch at Cafe Sabel which overlooks the duck pond, then strolled in the garden after eating.

Rain came and went. Came and went.

When the skies cleared, we left the museum and walked to Ifugao Woodcarver's Village to catch a jeep going back to the city center. It was a long walk, and we waited for ages, but bubba and I didn't mind. We had a great art appreciation day and you had a great sleeping day.
