On A Mission At Mission Beach

Dear Luna,

It's day two of our Cairns-Sydney roadtrip.

Right now we're at some rest stop off Bruce Highway, and we're sleeping inside our station wagon
(Which we hired for free!) again tonight. Prolly for the whole trip, we're not sure. We're the only ones parked at this stop, so mumma and bubba decided to have a bath in the bush and we used our esky as a pail and one of the pots as a dipper.

It was hilarious! We gave you a bath first and you were so annoyed, you kept saying "I want in the room!", perhaps pertaining to a bathroom but there were no showers in the toilets. Bath did you good me thinks, cause you're looking refreshed.

Anyhoo, this morning we went to Mission Beach in Queensland.

Sand between your toes, and all over your legs.

When we arrived at Mission Beach, you ran straight to the water without looking back! And it's infested with marine stingers so mumma and bubba ran after you as fast as we could! Yes, I was running while taking this photo.
As always, you had fun playing with sand.
We let you get in the water, but only until this part. We were that paranoid.
Mumma took heaps of snapshots, of course. And you wouldn't stand still, of course.
Oh that impish grin.
At Mission Beach, we made it a mission to visit at least one beach every day until our trip is over. We reckon this can't be difficult to achieve. Question is, will we really be up for it? Every day?

Sydney Autumn

Dear Luna,

We're back in Australia now, and will be here for about a month to catch up with family and friends. And for mum to hopefully watch the Dave Matthews Band Concert in Sydney.

Today we visited your granpa Bubba Shah and granma Mitra. Before we headed to their house for a lovely chicken tikka masala (which you didn't eat because it was too spicy) dinner, we took photos of you in your new dress which you thought was a school uniform because you kept saying, "Luna is going to school now!".

So cute.

Mtskheta, Georgia

Dear Luna,

Here's something I wish you could correctly pronounce someday, Mtskheta.

Because mummy can't. I tried so many times 'til I ended up with a sore throat.

It's the name of a city we visited this morning. We're currently traveling Georgia (the country in Caucasus, not the U.S. state) and it was the first place we toured outside the capital Tbilisi. Such an interesting place, this Mtskheta. It's one of oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world! Remains have been dated to earlier than year 1000 BC. That's a very very very long time ago, baby doll.

Like, earlier than the 'Once upon a time...' in fairy tales. Maybe.

Aaanyway, we visited Jvari Monastery (wherein you had fun making echoes, to the annoyance of a clergyman on guard) and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (wherein we had to chase  you everywhere). We hired grandpa cabbie who picked us up from the airport when we arrived in the country days prior to drive us around. He doesn't speak English (we only came across two Georgians who do) but we enjoyed his company. He likes classic rock which mom does too, and he played songs of this genre on his car's cassette player. He likes ice cream. And he likes you too.

Australia Day 2013

Dear Luna,

Today's our first Australia Day! Unfortunately, bubba's in the U.S. for work so we're celebrating just the two of us. You and I are currently staying at a rented self-contained studio in Kangaroo Point, Brisbane.

Days ago, I planned to take you to the nearby playground so we can have a simple picnic on Australia Day, but the weather's been bad. Today I heard in the news that 6 tornadoes hit Queensland. So we just stayed indoors.

But we still had a good time. We did a toast with your cup of Solo and my cup of Australian Pink rosé.

Нижний Новгород (Nizhny Novgorod)

Dear Luna,

What a frigorific day in Russia! Even so, we did a bit of roaming this afternoon cause we only got a couple of days in Nizhny Novgorod (after which we head to Moscow). Bubba's colleagues, who organized our visit (we're in the country partly for business, partly for pleasure), accompanied us to a few attractions that are a short stroll away from the hostel we're staying in.

You had heaps of fun running around the Kremlin. And we just let you be.

You're so adorbs in that 20-peso ukay jacket. Looks like it did a good job in keeping you warm.
